Since 1993, PAC volunteers, in cooperation
with The Environmental Quality Institute at the University of
North Carolina/Asheville, have regularly visited critical stream
sites throughout our service area to take water samples to be
tested for twelve distinct qualities. These qualities include
acidity, conductivity, the presence of trace metals and nutrients,
and the suspended solids and turbidity which can harm aquatic
life.
PAC
distributes the lab reports from UNC/Asheville to community
groups, local governments and private citizens to enable them to
reach informed decisions about the impact of population growth on
water quality.
PAC also provides educational programs
on watershed protection and environmental quality for area schools
and civic groups. These popular programs use visual aids to help
emphasize the critical importance of protecting our most valuable
natural resource.
If you'd like to join our stream
monitoring team or help us with our educational programs, let us know.
